My mom introduced me to Yoga as a young child when she would occasionally whip out a book on the subject to practice some of the poses. I vividly remember how much fun we had practicing the postures while paying attention to our breathing. My next encounter with Yoga was some years later, when I took it as an elective in College. It was a fun and relatively easy class that helped to relieve some of that college life stress (Bonus!!). Currently, I like to practice Yoga whenever I feel like I need an active recovery day from my usual weight training exercise routine.
For me, there’s good reason to come back to Yoga every now and then. For one, it’s relatively easy to get started. You don’t need any fancy equipment other than a yoga mat to try your first pose. You use your own body weight to develop muscle strength and each pose can be modified according to your skill level. Yoga also incorporates stretching that will improve your overall flexibility which is important for your posture and to develop the appropriate muscle length tension relationship for optimal muscle contraction and better, functional movement. Yoga is appropriate for all fitness levels and will help the avid practitioner to relieve stress by tapping into the mind body connection.
That’s why I’m so excited to announce I will be co-hosting a FREE online 3 Week Yoga Retreat Group starting 10/17/16! This is truly a unique experience because you will be able to participate and build a proper yoga foundation in the comfort of your home. You’re probably curious to know how this will be done, right?
